Report your buyer's product usage to AWS so they can be billed based on consumption. Usage can be submitted directly from a contract in Tackle.

Requirements

You can only submit usage for active contracts on SaaS listings.

The Add usage button is unavailable if:

  • The contract has not started (status: Pending).

  • The contract has ended and the AWS submission window has passed.

  • The contract is for a non-SaaS product, such as AMI or Professional Services.

AWS allows usage submissions until 1 hour after the contract ends.

Submit usage

1. Open the contract

  1. Go to Contracts in the left sidebar.

  2. Select the contract you want to submit usage for. Search by customer name or other fields. For the most reliable results, use the Agreement ID.

  3. Click Add usage in the upper-right corner.

2. Enter usage details

The Add usage panel opens with contract information such as the start date, end date, Agreement ID, product, AWS account ID, buyer ID, and License ARN.

Under Dimensions, enter:

Dimension β€” Select the usage dimension.

Quantity β€” Enter the amount of usage to report.

Start time β€” Enter the start time in mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss format.

Note
AWS allows usage to be backdated up to 6 hours. If you are unsure of the exact start time or are not metering hourly, use the current date and time.

To submit usage for multiple dimensions, click Add dimension and repeat the process.

Click Review when finished.

3. Review and submit

Review the usage summary before submitting.

Important: Usage submissions are final and cannot be reversed.

Toggle the confirmation: I confirm the usage data is accurate and understand this submission is final and irreversible.

Click Submit to cloud.

View usage submissions

After submitting usage, open the Usage tab on the contract.

Each submission includes:

Field

Description

Submitted date

Date and time of the usage record submitted to AWS

Dimension

What you are measuring

Description

Description of the submission

Status

Pending, Accepted, or Rejected

Quantity

How much is being used

Est. price

Estimated price for the usage

Note
Only Tackle-submitted usage will appear on the contract.

New submissions initially show Pending while AWS processes the record. When AWS completes processing, the status updates to Accepted.

Rejected submissions

If AWS rejects a usage submission, the record will show Rejected along with a badge indicating the rejection reason (for example: invalid-usage-dimension, customer-not-entitled).

Mouse over the badge to view more details about the rejection.

Note

If you have an AWS meterable listing and an active contract on that listing, Tackle submits hourly zero quantity records on your behalf. It is possible to cancel your contract before the end of the subscription date.

You must submit any outstanding usage within the allowable timeframe dictated by the marketplace. For AWS, you have one (1) hour after it was canceled with a timestamp of usage before the cancelation time.

If you accidentally submit the wrong dimension or quantity, you will need to process these changes with the cloud provider directly, but you can contact Tackle Support for assistance in escalating this request if needed. If you miss reporting usage, follow best practice guidanceπŸ”— from AWS.
